Purpose:


The Business Development (BD) Strategist is a key member of the New Business Development group that is responsible for developing and driving the maturation of the Natural Gas Sector’s portfolio of new opportunities across the upstream to downstream value chain. The BD Strategist is a critical role in shaping and executing strategic initiatives to enhance the sector’s long-term value and is responsible for managing the process through which the Sector determines its strategic goals and investment decisions.

Accountabilities: 

The BD Strategist is accountable for driving the day-to-day aspects of the investment process on potential opportunities, including investment sourcing and evaluation, due diligence management, financial and valuation analysis, deal structuring, and negotiation support. The BD Strategist also assists in post-investment portfolio management and provide support in operationalizing new business opportunities in line with strategic initiatives.

Main Responsibilities of this role:
  • Corporate Strategy Development
    • Participate in the development and execution of the Sector’s long-term growth strategy
    • Provide advice and recommendations on overall strategy and decision-making on business opportunities
    • Gather market intelligence and conduct industry and competitive analyses to identify growth opportunities and optimizations in existing portfolio
  • Investment Sourcing and Execution
    • Run the process of identification, evaluation, structuring and execution of potential opportunities
    • Oversee the due diligence process on investment opportunities and initiatives, including managing multi-disciplinary in-house teams and third-party advisors involved in the transaction
    • Conduct financial analysis and modelling to evaluate business opportunities and support strategic decision-making
    • Assist in negotiating and structuring of transaction agreements
  • Portfolio Management
    • Oversee the closing, integration and handover of investments to their project team to ensure their alignment and execution with strategic value
    • Manage post-investment portfolio prior to handover to project team, including continuous assessment of their strategic and financial value
Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, economics, business administration or a related field
  • 8-10 years of experience in investment banking, corporate finance or corporate development, preferably with successful deal execution in the natural gas, petroleum or power industry
  • Strong financial modelling and valuation skills
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently as well as lead and mentor junior members of the team
