The Contract Project Cost Technician is responsible for maintaining accurate and consistent project cost data using SAP and Spotfire to track cost performance against budget, committed, and incurred costs. This role involves accrual and forecast reporting in Spotfire, invoice review against progress reports, and preparing AFE requests for funding approval, including status checks and follow-ups.

Responsibilities

• Ensure consistent maintenance of data out of SAP and Spotfire used for Cost Control purposes.
• Accrual and forecast reporting into Spotfire.
• Review invoices and check against progress reports.
• Prepare and submit AFE requests for funding approval and complete status checks and follow-ups as required
• Assist and train other stakeholders on Cost Control and SAP related requests.
• Support forecast, accrual, and reporting processes as required
• Offer general support to other departments (Tax, Audit, etc.) and other initiatives as required.
• Monitor and control cost to flag issues, report on variance from plan
• Assist Project Engineers in managing key project variables related to cost control
• Support a variety of initiatives from the cost control function including, reporting, cost control process alignment, accruals, and supporting the finance department for monthly and long-range plan reporting (UpCap).

Deliverables

• Regularly updated cost control reports
• Data extracts and reconciliations from SAP.
• Monthly forecasts into Spotfire.
• Variance analysis reports comparing estimate, forecast and actuals.
• Invoice validation against progress reports.
• AFE Request submissions with supporting documentation.

Competencies – Required

• 4+ years related experience in cost control or in controlling operating costs
• A minimum of 2-3 years related experience on projects in the energy industry
• Working knowledge of SAP and advanced skills in MS Office Products (Adobe, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
• Experience developing reports with Power BI (or other) reporting tools would be an asset.
• Knowledge of budget forecasting, incurred costs tracking, accruals, commitment and invoicing processes
• Team player with the proven ability to collaborate and communicate across business functions to achieve goals
• Excellent problem solving and facilitation skills with ability to plan, prioritize and deliver quality results.
• Strong multi-tasking skills with the ability to prioritize and organize multiple concurrent assignments.

Qualifications

Certifications – The below would be an asset.

• Post-secondary education with a focus in accounting, finance or project management preferred.
• Accounting designation, or working towards designation (CPA, CMA, etc.)
• Project Management Professional (PMP) designation
