Job Title: Cost Engineer
Contract Duration: 1-year temporary contract with the possibility of extension
Location: Rotterdam

Introduction
We are looking for a Cost Engineer for our client, a leader in the FPSO and Oil & Gas sectors. This position is based in Rotterdam, offering a one-year contract with the option to extend.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Gain a thorough understanding of potential project expenses to identify cost overruns early, enabling the Project Manager to take corrective actions as necessary.
  • Analyze project spending and establish cost trends.
  • Investigate any budget deviations, such as overruns or savings, and understand their causes.
  • Promote a cost-conscious culture where all team members are aware of how their work affects the project’s budget, including relevant contractual aspects.
  • Collaborate closely with the project team (Planning, Contracts, Purchasing, Engineering, Construction, and Accounting) to gather commercial and technical insights and achieve shared goals.
  • Apply the company’s cost control methods to the project.
  • Develop the initial project budget based on technical data, cost assumptions, and information from the estimating phase.
  • Look for opportunities to reduce project costs by analyzing all activities from a cost-saving perspective.
  • Prepare cost estimates for potential design or execution changes.
  • Use in-house methods like trending and earned value analysis to assess project budgets and provide monthly cost forecasts.
  • Prepare monthly project cost reports and consolidate them into the Cost Control Monthly Report.
  • Assist in preparing financial reports for senior management.
  • Identify and prepare project variation orders for approval by the Project Manager and submission to the client.
  • Provide cost data to validate supplier change requests or as input for client change requests.
  • Ensure accurate and high-quality cost data is regularly shared with the Corporate Estimating Department for ongoing implementation of norms and benchmarking.
Requirements:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in a technical field.
  • Experience: At least 3 years of experience in estimating or project roles within the offshore or shipbuilding industry.
  • Skills:
    • Fluent in English.
    • Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and a methodical approach to work.
    • Ability to analyze data and manage information effectively.
    • Proficiency in IT, especially MS Excel, and the ability to quickly learn specialized software.
    • Excellent teamwork, relationship-building, and interpersonal skills.
    • Strong organizational and time-management abilities to meet deadlines and project goals.
