Position Overview:
The Demurrage & Claims Analyst/Specialist is a critical member within Aramco Trading Company. As a member of the Claims team, you will have direct responsibility to eliminate value leakage and reduce financial exposures which are inherent in waterborne trading such as demurrage claims, deviation claims, interim port claims, and ancillary claims. The claims Analyst/Specialist will liaise with a host of internal stakeholders including but not limited to Oil Traders, Freight Traders, Trading Operators, Freight Operators, finance, settlements, contract coordinators, and terminal personnel. Additionally, the Claims Specialist will interact with third party counterparties through the negotiation process of settling claims. Strong collaboration, networking, and relationship building is a critical attribute to be successful in this role. This role demands strong commercial acumen and deep understanding of multi-form shipping contracts, trading contracts, and Incoterms. Having a broad understanding of trading GT&Cs and Charter Paries is extremely beneficial.   

Responsibilities:
  • Review, analyze, and negotiate all claims such as demurrage, post-deal, interim port, deviation, bunkers, misc. claims, etc. in line with commercial contract terms and/or charter party terms
  • Prepare all applicable recovery claims with internal and external counterparties ensuring maximum value for the Organization within contractual parameters
  • Work closely with internal stakeholders to ensure claims are managed efficiently and correctly
  • Build and maintain an extensive network of external relationships
  • Work closely with relevant traders, providing trend analysis to proactively manage and mitigate exposures
  • Subject matter expert on commercial contract and charter parties claims exposures
  • Understand the cost benefit of disputed claims relative to the business requirements and negotiate favorable settlement terms when approved by the business owner
  • Subject matter expert on all marine elements of hydrocarbon deals and related GTCs, providing guidance to contracts, legal, and trading on suggested wording, risks, opportunities, etc
  • Share working knowledge of the claims process and contractual obligations to raise awareness and mentor peers within the trading organization.

  • Basic Qualifications Required:
  • Bachelors Degree
  • Minimum of 3 Years of experience directly managing demurrage and post-fixture claims
  • Previous experience working within a Global Trading Organization
  • Expert level knowledge of contractual exposure liabilities within trade agreements, GTCs, and Charter Parties
  • Understanding of the global shipping market and chartering process
  • Understanding of standard Incoterms
  • Knowledge and awareness of standard shipping terms and acronyms
  • Knowledge and awareness of managing vessel operations and associated marine costs
  • Knowledge and awareness of terminal operations.
  • Knowledge and awareness of marine assurance and vetting best practices
  • Demonstrated ability to be: motivated, self-starter, team player, innovative, collaborative (build networks and trust), entrepreneurial, forward-thinking, manage complexity, detail oriented and analytical.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Previous experience with a ship owner or operator
  • Degree from a Maritime University or related degree
