Electrical Designer
Roles and responsibilities:
  • Initiate and complete electrical engineering drawings
  • Perform hands-on designs, calculations, and evaluations to produce deliverables such as cost estimate MTOs, single line diagrams, power, lighting and grounding layouts, cable schedules, control and wiring schematics
Qualifications:
  • Familiarity with the Canadian Electrical Code, API Standards and company standards
  • Proficiency with Microstation, Smart Plant, PDS, Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Strong organizational skills, technical competence and attention to detail
  • Extensive experience with demand load calculations, voltage drop calculations, lighting calculations, cable tray fill calculations, etc. and the ability to thoroughly check others’ calculations
  • Experience in design of MV, LV and communication systems, cable trays, EHT, cable schedules, control, lighting, grounding, wiring and schematics
  • Experience with production of SLDs, area classification drawings, electrical layouts, JB wiring diagrams, motor/VFD schematics, cable schedules, EHT isometrics, etc.
  • Ability to interpret information from vendor electrical drawings, P&IDs, LDTs, isometrics etc.
  • Proven problem solving abilities
  • Ability to work within a multi-disciplinary team including process, mechanical, civil-structural, electrical, instrumentation and piping
  • Excellent communication skills (interpersonal and written) and proven ability to collaborate with team members in a multi-discipline environment
  • Ensure engineering deliverables (e.g., reports, drawings) comply with applicable regulations, standards, procedures and sound engineering practices
  • Producing drawings with minimum technical guidance
  • Being able to meet safety requirements to attend site visits
