NES Fircroft is recruiting an IT Desktop Technician on behalf of our Engineering and Services provider based in Sheffield. This is a contract opportunity until June 2025 initially.
Purpose of the Role:
The client values providing superior customer service and are committed to the successful operation of the IT systems and infrastructure. They are seeking a new team member to join the small internal IT Department on a contract basis.
This newly created role will support the UK business as we move our existing hardware to an Internet centric, state of the art cloud-based client management solution. Moving away from using our service providers on-premises infrastructure.

Role Objectives:
- Replacement/ migration of approximately 365 PCs from Windows 10 to Windows 11 within a defined period. Users are spread across 5 UK locations.
- Support the wider IDT team with Win11/ hardware topics as required.
- Working with the UK Head of IDT and defined team members, ensure the predefined project plan is followed. Identifying and highlighting any potential issues that could affect the project timeline as soon as they arise.
- Maintain accurate records of hardware inventory and deployment status.
- Day to day responsibility for the preparation and personalisation of replacement Windows 11 machines using internally approved IT processes. Including the installation and configuration of company provided software.
- Scheduling the deployment and recovery of hardware direct with end users. This will be a combination of face to face and remote planning as defined within the project plan.
- Timely preparation and return of old machines to our leasing company as defined.
- Providing migrated users with desktop support post migration, remotely and in person as required.
- SCCM/ Autopilot experience including OS deployment, application deployment, fault finding.
- Sound knowledge of Windows 11 and Office365.
- Experience rolling out/ upgrading computers, delivery of similar projects.
- Strong time management skills with the ability to work to tight timescales.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
- Problem-solving and analytical skills
- Patient, friendly demeanour with a good aptitude for listening.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Commitment to providing exceptional customer service.
- Certifications such as CompTIA A+, Microsoft Certified: Windows Client, or similar.
- Experience with large-scale hardware refresh projects.
- Familiarity with remote desktop tools and software deployment solutions.
