Job Title: Land Acquisition Manager – Mining Operations
Location: Hawesville, KY (Relocation Assistance, with occasional travel to Jamaica as required, travel overseas will be required).
Position Overview:
We are seeking a highly experienced Land Acquisition Manager to lead and manage land acquisition efforts for our mining operations in Jamaica. This is a critical role responsible for securing land rights, managing stakeholder relationships, and ensuring compliance with local regulations. The ideal candidate will have 10+ years of land acquisition experience, with significant expertise in navigating Jamaica’s regulatory landscape and cultural environment.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Strategic Land Acquisition:
• Develop and implement comprehensive land acquisition strategies to support mining operations in Jamaica.
• Identify high-priority land parcels through geological, legal, and feasibility assessments.
2. Stakeholder Negotiation & Engagement:
• Lead negotiations with landowners, government entities, and local stakeholders to secure land rights.
• Foster strong relationships with Jamaican communities and authorities to ensure cooperation and alignment with project goals.
3. Compliance & Regulatory Oversight:
• Ensure all land transactions adhere to Jamaican land laws, environmental regulations, and mining industry standards.
• Collaborate with legal teams to obtain permits, licenses, and other required approvals.
4. Project Management & Documentation:
• Oversee land acquisition budgets, timelines, and deliverables to meet project milestones.
• Maintain accurate documentation of all transactions, including contracts, payments, and permits.
5. Environmental and Social Responsibility:
• Work closely with environmental and sustainability teams to minimize impacts on local ecosystems and communities.
• Support corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives that promote local development and goodwill.
6. Leadership & Cross-Functional Collaboration:
• Serve as a key advisor to senior leadership on land acquisition strategies in Jamaica.
• Collaborate with internal teams, including mining operations, legal, and project development, to align land acquisition with business objectives.
Qualifications:
• Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Real Estate, Environmental Science, Mining Engineering, or related field. Advanced degrees or certifications are preferred.
• Experience:
• 10+ years of experience in land acquisition, with significant time spent on projects in Jamaica or similar regions.
• Proven success in managing large-scale land negotiations for mining, energy, or industrial projects.
• Deep understanding of Jamaican land ownership structures, cultural considerations, and regulatory frameworks.
Skills:
• Exceptional negotiation and stakeholder management skills.
• In-depth knowledge of Jamaican land laws and environmental regulations.
• Proficiency in project management tools, GIS mapping software, and contract management systems.
• Attributes:
• Strong cultural awareness and ability to build trust across diverse stakeholder groups.
• Detail-oriented, organized, and capable of managing complex, cross-border projects.
• Self-starter with the ability to work independently and as part of a remote, cross-functional team.
Compensation and Benefits:
• Base Salary: $180,000 per year. (Negotiable)
• 401k: 6% match, with another 50% match on the next 6% totaling (9% match)
• Bonus: 25% target bonus based on performance.
• Long-Term Incentives: 20% equity or equivalent incentive structure.
• Comprehensive benefits package, including health insurance, retirement plans, and travel allowances.
Travel Requirements:
This role requires occasional travel to Jamaica to engage with stakeholders and oversee land-related activities, travel overseas will be required.
