A leading mining operator is seeking an experienced Lead Cost Engineer to join their team in a client-side role. This position will be responsible for leading cost control efforts across major projects, ensuring that capital and operational expenditures are effectively managed.

As a Lead Cost Engineer, you will play a key role in tracking, forecasting, and reporting on project financials, working closely with project teams, senior stakeholders, and contractors to maintain financial oversight. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience with cost management software such as Prism and a proven ability to manage large-scale mining projects. This is a FIFO position on a 12/9 roster all accomodation & costs covered. 

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement cost control systems to track and manage project expenditures.
  • Provide leadership in cost estimation, budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting.
  • Oversee detailed cost estimates, cash flows, and budgets, ensuring alignment with project objectives.
  • Monitor project progress and financial performance, identifying risks and ensuring cost efficiency.
  • Deliver regular cost reports and forecasts to senior management and stakeholders.
  • Liaise with project teams, contractors, and vendors to resolve cost-related issues.
  • Analyse cost trends and variances, implementing corrective actions when necessary.
  • Support tender evaluations and contractor bid assessments from a cost perspective.
  • Conduct cost audits and compliance reviews to maintain financial integrity.
  • Manage change orders and variations, ensuring proper documentation and budget integration.
  • Drive strategic cost management initiatives and financial risk mitigation.
About You:
  • 8+ years of experience in cost engineering, with a strong background in mining or resources.
  • Proven experience in a leadership role, overseeing project cost control on large-scale mining projects.
  • Proficient in cost control software (e.g., Prism) and financial modelling in Excel.
  • Strong understanding of project lifecycle, financial forecasting, and risk management.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to influence and collaborate effectively with senior stakeholders and project teams.
