NES Fircroft are delighted to be exclusively partnering with a Oil & Gas operations giant who are looking to add a Lead Process Safety Engineer to work on their Oil Production facility in Basra, Iraq.
This role will be to join the client on a 28 day on 28 day off rotational basis. It offers a fantastic rate and contractor package as well as the opportunity to work on one the world premier onshore production facilities.
Key Accountabilities
At least 15 years industry experience with 5 years in international multicultural operational roles across the full value chain of hydrocarbon and water production facilities. Experience in brownfield operations process safety engineering, reliability, modifications and strong technical leadership with influencing capabilities.
An ability to work effectively with other disciplines / teams to understand and assess complex issues and develop pragmatic solutions.
Proven ability in practical application of engineering standards and practices for process safety engineering. Candidate to demonstrate familiarity with all relevant industry process safety engineering codes, standards, and practices (API, ASME, ISO etc.), and relevant experience with key process safety engineering tools such as Phast, Bowtie XP, Aspen HYSYS & Flare System Analyser

Key Accountabilities
- Promote a culture of process safety and continuous improvement.
- Assist the PSTL with the site nationalisation program and support professional development of Iraqi nationals.
- Provides process safety engineering expertise to support the wider client organisation through engineering guidance and by performing and reviewing complex, or non-routine process safety engineering calculations, risk assessment and analyses.
- Provides process safety engineering expertise to EQs, MoCs and Projects including coordination with Production / Operations/ Maintenance staff to identify / prioritise engineering activities.
- Provide assurance on process safety engineering compliance with applicable Standards, Specifications, Codes and Regulations within company and 3rd parties. Ensure that non-conformities and temporary deviations are identified and assessed.
- Perform / review risk and consequence analysis and where required coach others on the use of risk analysis and consequence modelling techniques such as QRA, FERA, Explosion Modelling, Fire and Gas Mapping using industry standard software such as PHAST
- Where required facilitate and participaite in process safety design reviews and safety studies such as HAZOP and HAZID/ENVID.
- Working knowledge of functional safety concepts and the application of industry standards e.g. IEC61508/11, in design and operational phases.
- Ensures critical process safety documentation and information, e.g. Bowtie diagrams are kept up to date.
- Assists with the reviews of the impact of emerging risks within client business
- Communicates process safety engineering lessons learned to internal and site Operations teams and encourages a culture of sharing experience and continuous improvement.
- Where required, provides process safety engineering expertise in performing incident investigations and defect investigations.
- Provides process safety engineering expertise to delivery of regional actions. Leads on resolution of complex, multi-discipline technical issues where the dominant component is process safety related.
- Degree / diploma qualified engineer or equivalent work experience. BSc, BEng or MEng (UK), BSc (US), or international equivalent in Chemical / Process Engineering or other relevant engineering subject.
- Professional accreditation, such as Professional Engineer or Chartered Engineer.
