Role Overview: The Export and Import Logistics Planning Transportation Management Specialist will be responsible for planning, coordinating, and managing transportation logistics for both export and import activities. The role requires expertise in the use of Transportation Planning Event Management (TPEM) systems to ensure seamless shipment execution. This specialist will need to leverage strong organizational, time management, and communication skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams and external partners to meet business objectives and customer expectations.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Export and Import Logistics Planning:
    • Oversee and coordinate the transportation of goods for both export and import operations.
    • Plan and schedule shipments to ensure on-time delivery and compliance with international trade regulations and logistics requirements.
    • Manage end-to-end logistics processes, including shipping documentation, customs clearance, freight forwarding, and final delivery.
    • Collaborate with freight forwarders, customs brokers, and suppliers to ensure smooth movement of goods across borders.
  2. Transportation Management System (TPEM) Expertise:
    • Utilize the Transportation Planning Event Management (TPEM) system to monitor and manage transportation events from planning through to execution.
    • Ensure the accurate input and update of transportation data into the TPEM system, tracking shipments, managing exceptions, and resolving issues in real-time.
    • Leverage the TPEM system to optimize routes, manage costs, and improve overall transportation efficiency.
    • Use the system to maintain visibility on shipment progress and proactively manage any disruptions.
  3. Logistics Coordination and Communication:
    • Act as a key liaison between internal stakeholders (e.g., operations, sales, customer service) and external partners (e.g., carriers, freight forwarders, etx) to ensure timely and accurate transportation of goods.
    • Communicate effectively with customers, freight forwarders, and transportation providers, keeping all parties informed of shipment status, delays, or issues.
    • Ensure clear and consistent communication across departments and with external partners to resolve any logistics or transportation challenges.
  4. Time Management and Organizational Skills:
    • Prioritize and manage multiple logistics tasks and transportation events simultaneously, ensuring all deadlines are met.
    • Maintain up-to-date and accurate records of all shipments, including shipment schedules, transportation costs, and any issues or delays.
    • Organize logistics workflows efficiently to minimize delays, reduce costs, and maximize customer satisfaction.
  5. Problem Solving and Issue Resolution:
    • Proactively identify and address potential issues or delays in transportation planning and execution.
    • Resolve any transportation-related discrepancies or issues, such as incorrect documentation, shipment delays, or customs clearance problems.
    • Collaborate with internal and external teams to implement corrective actions and prevent future disruptions.
  6. Compliance and Documentation Management:
    • Ensure all shipments comply with relevant export and import regulations, including customs documentation, export licenses, and trade compliance requirements.
    • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all shipping documents, including Bills of Lading, commercial invoices, and customs declarations.
    • Work closely with customs brokers and regulatory bodies to ensure compliance with local and international regulations.
  7. Team Collaboration and Support:
    • Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams including procurement, customer service, and sales to ensure seamless logistics operations.
    • Support the team with logistics planning, operational strategies, and process improvements to streamline logistics workflows.
    • Share best practices and knowledge with colleagues, supporting the continuous improvement of logistics processes and systems.
  8. Continuous Improvement and Best Practices:
    • Apply a continuous improvement mindset to optimize logistics planning and execution processes.
    • Stay current with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices to ensure the logistics team remains competitive and effective.
    • Proactively contribute to process enhancements, suggesting and implementing improvements in logistics planning, communication, and execution.
Qualifications and Skills:
  • Experience: Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in export and import logistics, with a strong focus on transportation planning and management.
  • Technical Expertise: Proficient in the use of Transportation Planning Event Management (TPEM) systems, or similar Transportation Management Systems (TMS). Experienced with SAP a plus.
  • Knowledge: In-depth understanding of export/import regulations, and transportation logistics processes.
  • Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively engage and collaborate with both internal teams and external partners.
  • Time Management: Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple responsibilities effectively.
  • Problem Solving: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to resolve complex transportation issues quickly and efficiently.
  • Team Player: Ability to work well in a team environment, collaborate across departments, and contribute to the success of the logistics team.
  • Attention to Detail: Exceptional attention to detail to ensure accuracy in documentation, data entry, and shipment tracking.
  • Education/Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred but not required

This is a hybrid position that requires the candidate to be in the Clear Lake Houston, TX office on Mondays and Tuesdays each week.
