  • Assist in creating key documents, participating in meetings, and making decisions (WID, NDS meetings, well option selection, operational decision trees, and finalizing the data acquisition program).
  • Create pre-drill risk registers and ensure mitigation and contingency plans for all geological risks.
  • Construct the SOR document, ensuring well objectives, data acquisition, and relevant overburden characterization elements are included.
  • Ensure appropriate resourcing of well-site geologists both onshore and offshore through active engagement with suppliers.
  • Integrate well planning and operational activities through strong collaboration with key stakeholders, NWD, and Wells leadership.
  • Lead the construction of the GOP, ensuring all relevant information is included.
  • Manage contractor performance for key wellsite services, including mudlogging, wireline/LWD, wellsite PPFG, and geological services.
Geological Operations:

  • Lead daily NWD/subsurface operations meetings with rig-based subsurface entities (WSG, BioStrat, ML, LWD).
  • Represent NWD/subsurface at the morning Wells rig call.
  • Present material on NDS and expected geology in subsurface hole section previews and reviews.
  • Participate in LWOP and CWOP exercises, ensuring early engagement of specialty vendors.
  • Provide support to the wellsite geologist through daily and as-needed ops calls, providing up-to-date information and offset data.
  • Help interpret and select formation tops, casing, and core points per SOR and appropriate decision trees.
  • Ensure efficient delivery of the data acquisition program and data quality per agreed terms, and secure all sensitive subsurface data and well results.
  • Engage all subsurface vendors to provide data and support as outlined in the GOP and Well Plan document.
  • Collaborate between Subsurface and Wells to ensure all well objectives are delivered safely and efficiently.
  • Ensure co-owners receive all required data and updates, acting as the SPA for co-owner communication and information dissemination.
  • Support the operations petrophysicist in QC of data acquisition programs and procedures.
Post Well:

  • Support successful EOW Report completion, ensuring it meets the expectations of the New Wells Common Process.
  • Finalize and electronically capture all data in the corporate regional data store, and distribute hard copies to stakeholders.
  • Support after-action reviews with service providers and liaise with geological contractor personnel to provide QA/QC of all subsurface data and reports, completing the scorecard.
  • Capture and document all post-well key learnings in PWR and share in appropriate NWD venues.
  • Support root cause analysis for any NPT event related to subsurface operations (Orange category) and distribute learnings through appropriate venues and stakeholders.
  • Support the formal development of national staff through learning sessions/workshops for both well-site and operations geology staff.
Experience and Job Requirements:

  • University Degree in Geology or a related subject.
  • 8 to 15+ years of relevant industry experience, primarily in a geological operations environment.
  • Essential experience in well planning and operations geology, well-site geology. Knowledge of drilling operations, pore pressure, and mudlogging is desirable.
  • Proficiency in geological, seismic, and petrophysical log interpretation and workstation skills; experience with Petrel and TechLog is highly desirable.
