Job title:  Senior/Associate Civil Engineer - Ideal canddate with experience in design, contracts management and discussions, PV (Solar) Experience.

  1. MANDATE

To coordinate and evaluate all tasks and designs related to geotechnical, hydrological, civil, structural aspects of projects in various stages of development, execution, and operations to various business units within the organisation. Support to engineering manager and managing junior to medium level engineers and draughtsmen.
   
  1. CORE RESPONSABILITIES

Support to Development Phase
    1. Lead the geological, topographical, and hydrological due diligence tasks
    2. Lead review of hydrological, geotechnical, structural and roads risks at development phase
    3. Lead the calculation of civil quantities for the bill of quantities
    4. Identify country specific Civil risks and constraints
    5. Presence on site during development phase to compile site specific checklists/presentations and decide scope of work
    6. Supervision of Pull-out tests during development or structuring phase

Support to Structuring Phase of projects
    1. Conduct due diligence investigations on civil related packages to ensure risks and opportunities are identified to be implemented in the detail design
    2. Support Supply Chain Management on compilation and evaluation of RFP documents (technical specifications and bill of quantities), then lead engagement with suppliers to clarity the responses
    3. Support Execution Team with planning and alignment of technical aspects of the project
    4. Ensure that all civil design information identified throughout the structuring phase is implemented in the detail designs
    5. Supervision of Pull-out tests during development or structuring phase

Manage in Country Civil Junior Engineers
a.            Support technical growth of site and junior engineers
b.            Conduct internal technical discussion to transfer skills to the Civil Team  
  1. CRITICAL INTERFACES

Operating System
    1. Follow the guidelines and prescribed structures as outlined by the operating system
    2. Provide continuous input towards improvement and optimisation of the operating system

Support to projects in delivery/execution
    1. Ensure detailed engineering is implemented from the design stage with quality control and assurance documents
    2. Review design change request or proposals in the event of deviations
    3. Support in project close out phase towards TTO

Support to O&M (Operations & Maintenance)
    1. Support to resolve all civil related matters identified during operations
 
  1. CRITICAL QUALIFICATIONS AND COMPETENCIES
6.1 Qualifications/Knowledge
  • Min:
  • Professional Engineering Registration (or similar Technologist/ Chartered Engineer registration)
  • Design management of complex Civil infrastructure (foundations, drainage, roads and buildings)
  • Understanding of Resident Engineer management of complex Infrastructure projects
  • Sound knowledge of CAD
  • Sound knowledge of AutoCAD Civil 3D
  • Sound knowledge of numerical modelling software
  • An excellent knowledge of MS Office
  • Sound knowledge of GIS software
  • Language: fluent both written and spoken in English and Arabic
 
  • Ideal:
  • Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering
  • Sound knowledge of three of the following: (hydrogeological, Geotechnical, Structural or Roads/Pavement engineering)
  • Plaxis/Rocscience/Itasca/Prokon knowledge (or equivalent numerical and stress deformation analysis)

Technology & integration - Apply relevant engineering disciplines (electrical, civil, mechanical, HV, control, PV, wind, solar, hydro, BESS etc). Understand integration of technologies into the system designs (Expert)

Analytical skills - Ability to analyse complex systems, calculations and argumentations, and to formulate complex technical and commercial issues in a way that can be understood by non-technical resources. (Expert)

Contract management - Understand all relevant contracts (EPC, FIM, O&M, Grid Connection, PPA, etc) and ensure compliance with all contractual requirements. Understand different contracting schemes and how it affects engineering deliverables such as BOQ for red book contracts. (Advanced)

Project and process management -Initiate manage and drive implementation of relevant part of EPC projects or processes in line with agreed project charter and aligned with expectations for time, quality, and costs. Be proactive to capture future activities and plan tasks and resources accordingly to deliver on-time and with quality (Advanced)

Financial Control and Analysis - Overview of cost drivers in EPC projects, cost benchmarks, market trends, cost sensitivity etc.  Understanding of financial metrics such as revenue, CAPEX, OPEX, EBITDA and EBIT on project and segment level. (Advanced)

Reporting and presentation - Ability to prepare reports in line with relevant quality requirements (accurate, on time, relevant, aligned and proactively) and in a user-friendly way. Communicate and present findings in a good way, adapted to the audience of the report/presentation. (Expert)

Engineering Design -Understanding of the key design requirements and considerations for PV/Wind/BESS. Ability to critically review designs and provide relevant comments and value engineering inputs based on experience and lessons learned. (Expert)

Energy Modelling - Understanding of energy modelling principles for PV/Wind/BESS.  Ability to use the relevant resources and tools to review and deliver accurate production models. (Expert)

Site conditions - Ability to review site conditions and prescribe suitable site studies to de-risk the project in the development and structuring phases. (Advanced)
 
    1. Experience
Min:
6+ years civil engineering experience
2+ years Solar and Wind energy experience/exposure  
Foundation design/Geotechnical Investigations or hydrological modelling/ drainage design experience
Roads/pavement or Structural design analysis and bending schedules

Ideal:
Onshore structural/geotechnical design
Seismic design experience
Experience with civil design and construction of process plants and/or renewable power plants (ideally PV, wind, and BESS)
Friction and end bearing Pile design experience
Culvert sizing and Channel design
Slope stability and Retaining wall design
