NES Fircroft is actively seeking an experienced Design Engineer in Omaha, NE for a permanent role with our client, an Engineering Firm in the area! This position will focus heavily on the Civil/Structural side and will be resonsible for leading engineering and design teams for project deliverables.
Relocation not provided, client heavily favoring candidates local to the Omaha, NE area.

The Senior Design Engineer is responsible for making independent, sound, technical decisions and for leading engineering and design teams in preparation of technical proposals, reports, and project deliverables in a timely and appropriate manner. The Senior Design Engineer will understand and interpret project design requirements to assure exceptional project outcomes and client satisfaction. The Senior Design Engineer will assist management in the development of a coherent design team and participate in the staffing and technical development of client resources.

The Senior Design Engineer will understand and interpret project design requirements to assure exceptional project outcomes and client satisfaction. The Senior Design Engineer will assist management in the development of a coherent design team and participate in the staffing and technical development of client resources.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
- Participate in marketing efforts to develop and sustain targeted clients in key market sectors.
- Seek active involvement in Professional Networking Clubs.
- Provide final approval and submission of job proposals.
- Perform engineering duties in the design, analysis, and preparation of calculations, drawings, and specifications for use on the specific projects.
- Perform and prepare designs and modifications and systems for one or multiple assigned projects.
- Interface with customers, suppliers, and construction throughout all phases of planning, design, and construction.
- Independently evaluate, select, and apply standard engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria using judgment in making minor adaptations and modifications.
- Prepare conceptual and detailed design sketches, engineering calculations, construction drawings, and specifications.
- Consider construction costs, government regulations, potential environmental hazards, and other factors of risk analysis in all phases of planning and design.
- Understand and apply applicable building codes for various design build projects. Understand and be able to determine applicability of local, state, and international building codes.
- Compile and prepare documents to support permit applications to local, state, and federal agencies verifying that projects comply with applicable codes and regulations.
- Understand and apply standards and codes from industry-specific professional organizations such as ASTM, AISC, AWS, ASME, and ACI, etc.
- Specify construction materials for use in specific projects, and review supplier submittals and test reports from third-party laboratories.
- Apply industrial safety design principles to projects and specifications.
- Provide material take-offs and cost estimates for materials, labor, and engineering to determine a project’s economic feasibility.
- Supervise, coordinate, and review work of a small staff of engineers or technicians on assigned work and provide training for other personnel.
- Manage client needs and expectations throughout the project.
- Conduct periodic document reviews to ensure project scope and criteria are met.
- Manage project budget and billing (when projects do not require a PM).
- Apply the Engineering Code of Ethics to all signed and sealed work.
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:
Required:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Civil/Structural Engineering from an accredited engineering program.
- Registered Professional Engineer (PE).
- 10+ years related work experience.
- Advanced problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Excels working in a collaborative, transparent, teamwork-based culture.
- Values ethics, professionalism, and maintains confidentiality.
- Strong communication and presentation skills.
- Advanced understanding of Engineering and Computer Software required to perform duties (MS Office, AutoCAD, 2D &/or 3D CAD, BlueBeam, and other relevant discipline related software).
- Ability to travel to customer plants and construction sites.
- Capable of passing safety training for various industrial clients and comply with OSHA 10 requirements for customer sites and walk throughs.
- Ability to independently organize and prioritize work assignments and coordinate a variety of tasks and deadlines with good attention to detail.
Preferred:
- Master’s Degree in Engineering discipline or related field.
- Licensed in multiple states.
- Experience in Food & Beverage, Agricultural, Mineral Processing, and Power Industries.
- Strong working relationships with customers, contractors, fabricators, vendors, etc.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to remain in a stationary position approximately 6-8 hours per day.
- Ability to ascend/descend stairs and ladders when visiting job sites.
- Ability to perform work on elevated surfaces when visiting job sites.
- Ability to work in varied environmental environments: heat, cold, wind, etc when visiting job sites.
