Sibsea Cable Design Engineer

9 month contract
Remote working
Outside of IR35


You will be part of a team responsible for fully interpreting customer enquiries for various cables/umbilicals and terminations and converting this requirement into designs, CAD drawings, technical bid documentation and costings that meet the design criteria. On successful award of a contract these designs will then be translated into manufacturing specifications for production on our in-house cabling/extrusion/braiding machines and technical documentation to support the product verification process.

You will be mentored by the design manager. Our design manager will give you guidance as needed but will also be encouraged to develop independently the key competencies required for the task.

Once these core skills are developed you will ensure that the design output is aligned with our policies and procedures and in accordance with the relevant national/international standards.  

Aims & Objectives

From inception, design, production and through to helping new products into the market, you will be at the forefront of the development. This will start at the very beginning with responding to customer requests: understanding the application and customer requirements in detail, which will form the basis of the design. Close collaboration with our customers and our sales team leads to the engineering of custom solutions that help our clients meet their design and performance goals.

Qualifications and Education Requirements Skills & ExperienceRequired:

1. Practical knowledge of an engineering and manufacturing work environment with ideally aminimum of 5 years direct experience.

2. Sound theoretical knowledge – basic electrical theory, basic hydraulics, materials, stress &strain, fatigue.

3. Proficient in the use of 2D CAD software, preferably Autodesk products. 3D cad (Solidworks) anadvantage.

4. Proficient with MS office applications particularly Word, Excel and Outlook.

Preferred:

1. Exposure to a quality system such as ISO 9001 and experience in corrective action resolution.

2. Experience with cable/umbilical design and manufacture or with subsea oil and gas, diving,seismic, defence or special applications.

3. Exposure to systems for control of engineering documentation. (SolidWorks EPDM anadvantage.)
