Role: SURF Material, Welding & NDT Engineer
Starting date: March 2025
Status: Residential
Duration: 1.5 year minimum to 5 years
Location: Paris, France then at the contractor’s engineering site during project execution in Europe.
Travel: The position necessitates mobility and travel to the Suppliers workshops/laboratories, Contractors’ selected fabrications yards and offshore missions

The Material, Welding & NDT Engineer will be responsible for all the material selection, corrosion, welding & NDE activities and technical matters related to the project.
This will include but not be limited to reviewing, approving, preparing and managing all studies and Contractors, Suppliers and Sub-Suppliers documentation related to the Service Holder field of expertise during FEED, Call for Tender and EPCI phases.
The projects consist of Steel Lazy Wave Risers (SLWR), rigid flowlines and rigid spools in CS and CRA lined pipe (WOL/MLP/HRB) and rigid jumpers in Duplex, and associated subsea structures, equipment and ancillaries, for a very deep-water oil greenfield project. The Service Holder shall also assist the umbilical and flexible specialists in all matter related to the Service Holder field of expertise.
The Service Holder will provide support to the SURF Technical Manager and the SURF team and liaise with other project teams (SPS and FPSO).

ACTIVITIES
1. Adopt and demonstrate an exemplary behaviour with regards to H3SE&Q, to implement and control H3SE rules and requirements within his area of responsibility. Ensure all flowlines technical documentation and SURF Contractor activities comply with H3SE&Q requirements and highlight any potential deviations. Ensure safe working practices are implemented along all phases of project
2. Adopt and demonstrate an exemplary behaviour with regards to the Company Ethics and “Code of Conduct” policy, promote and enforce the Anti-Corruption Program within the Project,
3. Be responsible for all FEED material selection, corrosion, welding and NDE engineering activities and manage all FEED contractor technical activities,
4. Be responsible for preparation and timely delivery of the material selection, corrosion, welding and NDE Call for Tender technical package of the SURF EPCI Contract,
5. Be responsible for review, fitness for purpose and compliance to Project and Company requirements of SURF Tenderers Technical offers. Lead the technical clarifications with Tenderers and ensure timely closing of technical qualifications. Carry out Tenders technical evaluation and support for preparation of RTA technical part,
6. Define, develop, issue and maintain all necessary technical documentation related to the material selection, corrosion, welding and NDE activities. Support and participate to the development and maintenance of Project Management main documents (SOR, FDP, PEP, PQP, Risks, etc.),
7. Ensure follow-up / review / validation of progress performed by Contractor and its Suppliers with regards to his/her disciplines and analyze/report drifts that could occur and propose remedial solutions
8. Supervise and control the detailed engineering by timely reviewing the disciplines-related documentation issued by Contractor (WPS / WPQR / technical documentation / queries / derogation requests...), in order to ensure compliance with Project Specifications and Procedures (when applicable), international norms and standards with the objective to ensure respect of the schedule and to optimize costs without impacting required level of Quality and Safety.
9. Raise consequently necessary comments and highlight unsafe design, deviations, unacceptable / unjustified design choices, constructability issues
10. Act, as technical referent vis-à-vis Contractor(s) for material selection, corrosion, welding and NDE matters,
11. Ensure follow-up and support for supervision of all testing and qualification activities (PQT, PPT, FAT, EFAT, SIT, etc), fabrication activities at the various Contractor selected yards or Suppliers workshops and offshore pipeline installation activities,
12. Ensure technical compliance throughout the Project life of the engineered, procured, fabricated, tested and installed flowlines / spools / jumpers’ material and equipment (over several locations, yards). Ensure all technical, QA/QC and H3SE project policies and requirements are duly implemented and ensure Contractors’ compliance with contractual requirements in all areas. Anticipate and ensure adequate and timely reporting to the Technical Manager of any concern, issue or potential deviation. Propose timely and adequate solutions and optimizations.
13. Ensure that his/her work is in line with Material, Welding and NDT specialists of Company Headquarters,
14. Attend to qualification/mechanical/laboratory tests related to welding and NDT scope as required,
15. Review and approve PQT and WPS as required,
16. Assist Company Representatives at fabrication/offshore sites, in particular:
- Witness of welding operations, welding operator qualification and equipment, including acceptance criteria.
- Review of NDE techniques and NDE Operatives and acceptance criteria.
- Assessment and evaluation of welding environment and facilities, including arrangements for personnel protection and HSE.
- Examination and assessment of materials and consumables.
17. Review and approval of any “Special Processes” (Heat Treatment, Induction Bending, Pickling, Passivating etc.) ...
18. Liaise with other package teams (SPS, FPSO, etc.) for interface matters with the support of Interface Managers and leads,
19. Organize and participate to Project Reviews,
20. Assist and support the Technical Manager and the Subsea Manager on all aspects of the material selection, corrosion, welding and NDE related Call for Tender, Clarification & evaluation process, project execution and contracts management, and with the relations with Partners
21. Coordinate with other Team Members including the SURF contract engineer for the follow-up of correspondence and contract activities throughout the full CFT process and during Project Execution
22. Gather ‘lessons learnt’ and provide feedback to entities as required. Assist in the formalization of the close-out report

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
• Qualification: Master’s degree in engineering, with specialization in Material Sciences, ESSA or IWE qualification,
• Relevant Experiences and qualifications in NDT as AUT, Phased Array, TOFD, IWEX
• Experience within project: at least 10 years in large offshore oil & gas SURF deep water projects
• Additional features:
o Good knowledge of relevant codes (DNV), and preferably of General Specifications, procedures and policies.
o Previous experience with Major SURF Contractors during project execution for deep water project.
o Positive, constructive, proactive and pragmatic mindset.
o Ability to work within large teams with other parties (Contractors, suppliers, HQ technical teams, etc).
o Previous experience within a complex and multicultural working environment.
