Role Synopsis
The Wells ESP Superintendent will report to the Wells Workover Manager and work closely with the ESP Squad and the Workover ESP team. The ESP Superintendent will provide the leadership within the Workover ESP team to safely deliver an extensive workover schedule of pulling / running ESP’s in the mature field in Southern Iraq.
o The role will be responsible for the overall preparation and installation of “in well ESP
systems”, leading the operational teams, providing technical expertise to resolve
ongoing issues, provide recommendations for reducing workover duration and ensure NPT is minimised.
o The ESP Superintendent works closely with the ESP Squad who manage contracts and
inventory by participating technical reviews for new contracts and ensuring alignment of
inventory with the workover schedule.
o They will provide support on operationalising reliability improvements recommended through the ESP Squad Reliability team (PEFA/DIFA etc) back into the Wells processes workflows and teams.
o Close interaction with Subsurface will be important for success in this role, and having prior experience working with subsurface stakeholders is desirable.
o The role will support the development of Iraqi ESP personnel both in the office and at the well sites.
As the primary ESP interface with Wells Workover teams, a strong working relationship with the “ESP Squad”, HSE team, Subsurface, Operations and Procurement teams is also essential.
Key Accountabilities
Roles and responsibilities are expected to evolve as the business grows. Key areas to include:
o Safety:- Ensure all ESP operations are prepared, run and recovered with full compliance with the ESP Providers and the Workover Rigs Safety Management Systems (SMS’s .
o Understand any operational failures or improvement opportunities while running or pulling ESP’s. Initiate all required investigations to thoroughly understand operational failures and initiate corrective actions to prevent reoccurrence or identify opportunities.
Ensure corrective actions are managed to closure.
o Provide assurance that all risks are controlled in accordance with HSE plans.
o Ensure compliance with national regulations, Company policy, Contractor policies,
international standards and guidelines.
o Escalate any contractual compliance issues to the ESP CAM.
o Ensure alignment between ESP Inventory and other workover inventory, both from a technical compatibility perspective and a timing perspective.
o Participate in supplier performance reviews and assist CAM contract disputes.
o Monitor and drive supplier performance through the development and implementation of performance management systems and reviews
o Verify supplier QA/QC compliance and support auditing activities
o Lead and advise on all aspects of ESP engineering, equipment preparation and installation into the wells, within a continuous improving team to deliver the ESP’s on time and within budget.
o Create and maintain ESP related processes, procedures, checklists, and related documentation
o Lead and ensure activities are reviewed for lessons learned, findings are communicated, and corrective actions implemented
o Review the ESP well test performance and make recommendations related to ESP performance
o Coordinate and communicate with ESP vendors when they have new technologies and share the information between Wells ESP teams and the ESP Squad.
o Attend Washup meeting and review the root cause of ESP failure with ESP Squad teams
o Lead and conduct bi-weekly meeting to review the operation with Wells ESP Team and ESP vendors
Continuous improvement
o Actively develop Iraqi workforce by regular rig site visits and mentoring the crews covering all engineering and operational issues associated with ESP’s.
o Drive quality assurance in collaboration with Wells QA Team.
o Identify and apply lessons learned, value enhancing practices and new technologies.
o Identify and performance manage optimisation opportunities in the ESP end to end process.
Criteria & qualifications
o At least 15 years of relevant experience in the ESP industry including at least 2 years actually installing the ESP’s at the rig site, with a track record of delivery in a leadership role.
o Working experience with both ESP Service Companies and IOCs preferred, obtaining
understanding of the engineering and practical operational aspects of ESP systems.
o In depth knowledge of downhole and surface ESP system hardware and power supplies
o In depth knowledge of ESP lifecycle elements including design, installation, operation, troubleshooting and failure analysis.
o On site experience in well and rig site operations.
o Experience with strategic planning and ESP contract development and management.
o A proven ability to coach, train and mentor staff.
o Experience working in a remote location in a multicultural environment.
